PROFESSOR NINH NGUYEN

Professor Ninh Nguyen

Prof. Ninh Nguyen is a highly regarded surgeon in the field of Gastrointestinal Surgery. He has been Chief of the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of California Irvine Medical Center (UCI) since 2002.
Prof. Ninh Nguyen was among the first in Southern California to pioneer single-incision laparoscopic surgery, performing procedures such as gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, cholecystectomy, and appendectomy. He is also recognized as a pioneer in minimally invasive and bariatric surgical techniques.
He was President of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Chair of various committees, shaping advancements in surgery and healthcare quality.
He has received numerous accolades, including the Master Educator Award, multiple Physicians of Excellence honors, and the French Academy of Surgery Exchange Program award, highlighting his global impact on surgical innovation and education.
Prof. Ninh Nguyen’s research interests include esophageal cancer, Gastric cancer, Esophageal reflux disease, Morbid obesity, and Bariatric surgery.
Prof. Ninh Nguyen has authored and co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and more than 30 book chapters. He also serves on the editorial boards of leading surgical journals.
